Hong Kong’s finance and commercial hub, Central is filled with looming skyscrapers that form Hong Kong’s internationally recognisable skyline. A comprehensive network of footbridges connect the Grade A commercial buildings, malls and hotels. Even as early as 1958, plans were already being made to create this footbridge network named ‘Broadway’, introducing a new dimension of structures in this crowded district where land is sparse. In 1965, Hongkong Land built a footbridge between Prince’s Building and the Mandarin Oriental, alleviating the overcrowding situation on the ground. This created an elevated space for passerby and was significant in shaping Central’s environment and financial growth. This walking tour of the Hongkong Land’s Central Portfolio will bring you traversing between many buildings, and allow you to experience this unique city space. The tour will also introduce the relatively unknown aspects of the buildings, such as maintenance, building services, and upgrading works.
